3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | March 1st 17 | Rouille are a French post-hardcore band based in Zaragoza, Spain, which is a bit strange, but gives them no small pool of influences to choose from. Their sophomore record A La Fin Sera L'ecrit (French for "at the end it will be written") is a melodious take on post-hardcore with leanings toward post-rock, and it's definitely a grower. At first it seems so middling and almost tired, but on repeated listens it becomes apparent that the songs are crafted very well and even manage to phase in some catchier, more uplifting moments to balance out the general melancholic feel. The melodies reveal themselves as quite beautiful, and the vocals are obviously passionate and great for the style. Things can get a bit bogged down in the middle, but the ending tandem really works wonders, bringing both the best vocal work and guitar work to the table respectively. It's a really nice post-hardcore record that gets better with every listen; hopefully Rouille continues to get better with every record.
