With their fifth studio album, Revelry, Gentlemen and Scholars have produced a refreshing blues infused record while staying true to their Southern rock roots. It begins with Hold It Down, which has the bounce of a heavy blues rock track and guitar prowess in abundance.

There are vibes from the early days of Black Keys throughout the record with all the Southern Indiana band members contributing to a raw and energetic sound. Revelry will sound familiar to anyone well-versed in the history of rock n’ roll because Gentlemen and Scholars have taken well-worn techniques and have combined them with their distinctive, organic sound to create punchy rock tracks.

Way She Goes turns into a fast-paced song after the one-minute mark and along with Cruisin they are the most gritty cuts in the album and will sound even better live.

One of the standout tracks in Revelry is Behind The Wheel, which is performed with passion and emotion and thanks to the sophisticated arrangement and tremendous vocals it reaches great heights.

The album concludes with title track Revelry, which slows down the tempo by giving centre stage to just an acoustic guitar and Jeremiah Galey’s beautiful vocals.

The Southern Indiana band hasn’t broken much new ground with Revelry but its ability to deviate from the typical southern rock sound and effortlessly transcend genres is a testament to their musicianship.
