Movements is a phenomenal EP that showcased the band's effortless ability to create raw and emotional tunes. Unfortunately, their debut album Funeral Pyre fails to reach the same heights in nearly every aspect. The production is a massive step down which hurts the impact of the album's crescendos and climaxes. The re-recorded versions of the EP tracks sound like demos in comparison. The drumming is lackluster at best, unlike the concise playing found on their previous release. However, the songwriting is still quite impressive on a few tracks here. We, the Faithful, Fallen, is a breathtaking and compelling song full of beautiful vocal harmonies, guitar, and piano work. In Time Denounced and Under Florentine Skies also showcase the band's strengths while introducing new post-rock/ambient elements. Amidst the poor production choices, bloated runtime, and atrocious drumming, there's sincere performances and songwriting. The album isn't bad. Nevertheless, Movements left me astounded and awe inspired. Funeral Pyre left me wanting more.
