The first time I saw this album, it was tagged as "African post-rock." Naturally, I came right there and wanted more. albinobeach's debut self-titled is quirky in nature, while still being basic post-rock underneath. Melodically, it doesn't risk too much, aside from Myopia; however, this takes nothing away from the album's enjoyable nature. Much of the album is connected by a calming air, but it swells to full force at times. These crescendos are few but noticeable, bringing an explosion of chords into the mix of reverberated twang, tomtom slap, and drum tap alike. Overall, albinobeach have crafted a few new flavors out of the old candy mold that is post-rock, and the future can only be looking bright for them.
