This record is a near classic. While I normally shy away from electronics in metalcore/deathcore, the Browning executes this combination perfectly on Geist. Each song is memorable and have their own elements that really make the tracks stand out from one another. This effort is seemingly half heavy and crushing, and half melodic/electronic. The interplay between these two styles (and the quality of the performance) is what makes this record so special. One standout is the track "Carnage", which has a killer rap verse that would be out of place on most any other core release but in this case, it feels right at home. Another standout would be the closing track, "Skybreaker", which ties together the many ethereal themes presented on the record. The riffs on this track are virtuous and self-important but not in a way that detracts from the experience. It's more like the and fully believe in the message they are spreading and it definitely shows. Overall, this record is fun because it experiments with a lot of different ingredients but doesn't shy too far from crushing riffs and punishing screamed vocals that are a must-have staple of modern core music.
