What they had tried in their previous 1990 release, with the more diverse range of influences and styles being a lot more apparent on this record, however it's handled much better, and overall more cohesively. The blatant pop influence is also much less on this album with the band relying a lot more on their roots than entirely the new sound they had taken up in their 1990 album.
