3.5 great | AbominableMass | October 23rd 23 | The Canadian brutal death metal outfit, Display of Decay, is back again with their 2023 eight-song release, "Vitriol." After leaving much to be desired with their prior 2018 release, "Art in Mutilation," Display of Decay delivers on many of the expectations after a 5-year gap between their last albums.rNoticeably, Display of Decay decided to take a more technical approach, with songs such as "Decimate" showing influence from traditional technical death metal. What is noteworthy is that Display of Decay was able to incorporate increased technicality without sacrificing brutality. Often, when bands introduce more technical elements, they tend to sacrifice brutality.rHowever, it must be noted that this album lacks variety. Display of Decay's previous album, while also consisting of eight tracks, had a good amount of diversity. This album, while featuring some absolutely brutal and complex songs, falls short in comparison in terms of variety.rOverall, a great album.
