Marillion seems to be a band that most prog rock fans seem to have mixed opinions on. Most think that Marillion was a fantastic band during the Fish era and then afterwards just drifted into mediocrity with their new frontman Steve Hogarth. I highly disagree with the latter statement.
There is no questioning the fact that the fish era was much more important and consistent musically. But saying that Hogarth didn't release any incredible albums with Marillion is simply not true. Afraid of Sunlight is one of those albums that is just an extraordinary emotional roller-coaster throughout the entire album. Mark Kelly(Keyboards) and Steve Rothery(Lead Guitar) do some of their best work ever on this album. There's really not much else to say about it, its a rather simple album but filled with raw beauty at every corner.
All tracks are fantastic especially the album closer "King" i can proudly say that it is one of the few tracks that i have cried listening to in my life due to raw beauty.
Recommend this album to any prog fans, as well as to any open minded music listeners.
Other Great Hogarth era albums: "Brave"(My personal favorite), "Seasons End", and "Marbles"
Last Note: i realize that my writing skills are not great, But i just tried to state the truth. and please don't let them at all hinder your enjoyment of this record. This is the first review for this album which is a big surprise to me(also my first ever review), hopefully someone else can write a better review for it eventually.
