As many of you know Coheed and Cambria is Shabutie. You may wonder why at the beggining of "Devil In Jersy City" Claudio giggles and says "hehe shabutie!". The reason I am guessing is to hint back to the old days of making this CD Penelope. This 5 track EP is a definate must buy for true Coheed and Cambria fans who enjoyed "Second Stage Turbine Blade" more then any of the other albums.
When you listen to this album you realize what Claudio writes in Coheed and Cambria and what the other guitarist writes. The bass really sticks out on this EP having some slap lines (not funk crap). Claudio uses a delay effect for two of the songs which sound really nice and original overlapping each other ("Camouflage" and "Godfather's Lollipop").
Overall there isn't a single bad song on this whole 5 track CD. The writing is definatly different then that of Coheed and Cambria. "Cassiopeia" makes you want to get into a hot tub and stare up at the stars (probably because Cassiopeia is a constallation).
"Camouflage" has a part where Claudio screams "BURN!" that makes you want to get up and kill someone.
The major difference of the singing between Shabutie and Coheed and Cambria is that Claudio draggs on his words more in Shabutie and holds the notes longer. Claudio is overlapping his voice twice on every song so it sounds double which is an awsome effect. The singing on Shabutie gets weird at some parts where it seems like everything is being blended together but I enjoy it.
CASSIOPEIA
A nice slower song on the CD with an actual chorus. The guitar riff in the song is nice and relaxing which turns into an equally relaxing distortion part which is the chorus. At the end of this song song there is a part where everything quiets down and then crashes back into the song with guitar strigns being scratched and Claudio saying "crashing down".
CAMOUFLAGE
One of the songs with a cool introduction using a guitar overlappign effect. It slowly builds up into a fierce sensational almost screaming voice made by Claudio. There is an echo on his voice that is more noticeable in this song then the others. It also sounds like he dubbed over his voice sayign the same things at the same time. There is a nice pinch harmonic riff in here followed by "I wish you'd leave me alone". Although this song has no official chorus every part of it is worth listening to and fits together as one.
GODFATHER'S LOLLIPOP
This is my favorite song on the CD and is 7 minutes long (exactly). This is the other song with the cool intro. The few few minutes are slow and gradually become a chaotic scene of distortion and great writing. It slows down again and goes into my favorite part where Claudio sings "shes screamed more, loud, give me some more, yeeeaaah". This song like all the other ones with no chorus on this EP has the most catchy riff of the song at the end. I love this song. "I scare myself."
KINDERWHORE
This songs opening riff has a great bass slap line followed by "I have this power in my genitals". This song is the shortest out of them all but no less enjoyable to listen to. There is no chorus like it's two brothers and liek them has an awsome ending.
SHAMELESS
Great track with that starts of by going "AAAMMBERRR, SET FIRE TO DECEMBER" which is my favorite part of the song besides the chorus. This song is one of the only ones this album with an actual chorus. The chorus is great and you can understand Claudio very clearly during it.
Although this CD has nothing to do with the Coheed and Cambria story it's lyrics are great. I definatly recommend this CD and give it 4/5 stars.
