3.5 great | KurtBoyd | October 23rd 10 | This EP sounds like a trashy horror movie set to dirty beats with grimy bass and doomed vocals. In other words, it's totally bad ass.
Opening track "Analog Love (Digital Hate)" has a back beat that you could crack a tooth on and kicks things off with a bang. It's a mean little love song to celluloid dreams which transfers into "Faithless" a song about religion and those who peddle it. "The Hybrid Children" is a song about an America where the unwanted have literally been forced underground. While "X-Statix" is a song about the trappings of fame, money, drugs and social expectations, it's also got a killer hook. "Nightmare City" is a scatter-brained dream journal dripping with paranoia and dementia. "Signal 5" closes things out in beautiful fashion.
It's not a perfect album, but it's a great start. I can't wait to hear what they do next.
