Mefisto were actually one of the first Swedish extreme metal bands, alongside Bathory and Merciless. This compilation contains both of their demos (originally written and released in 1986). The general songwriting is very similar to early Bathory, but this band had more of a traditional metal slant to the music, with lengthy lead guitar pieces marking these songs. The riffs are very strong on both demos, coming off as almost a Bathory-meets-early Slayer deal. The band at times seem like they bit off more than they could chew (especially on the first demo), but hey, a lot of the best heavy metal was spawned from that. The production is raw yet clearly defined on both demos, and the performances are tight enough to pass. Definitely recommended if you come across it.
