Two more of Zorn's file-card pieces. The first is dedicated to conceptual artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, while the second was inspired by the Red Book of Carl Jung. These pieces make extensive use of sound effects and are highly atmospheric; cats screech, clocks strike, wind blows. There is even a playful nod to the Dreamers towards the end of "Liber Novus." "Dictee" features a beautiful Shakuhachi solo performed by Ned Rothenburg. At only 40 minutes, too, this record doesn't overstay its welcome. Excellent release.
