This is my new review of Bloodlined Calligraphy, some people thought the other one was crappy, which is fine it was crappy and I appreciate the criticism.

-hope this one is better………

Blooodlined Calligraphy is I guess what you would call a metal core band, the mix a heavy aspect with a melodic one. The music though isn’t really made to sound all that great. The band has two very skilled guitarists that I know and I’m sure many people can agree have a lot of potential that isn’t shown on this album.

As you can probably figure out by the genre, this band likes their breakdowns and has no guitar solos. I don’t mind the breakdowns I like them they give you something to nod your head to. Anyway BLC is really good about keeping it fresh and new they never really ever repeat riffs (none it all from what I heard) and they have a new catchy breakdown in every song you’re probably not going to get recycled riffs from this band. Both guitarists in the band have got some pretty impressive riffs that they play, and that is one of best things about this band. The band has a variety of upbeat harmonized riffs in most of their songs and the breakdown even though a lot of metal heads don’t appreciate them are a huge part of what keeps the band bearable. The guitarists do sound a little of at times when they do vibratos, as if they are lost and don’t entirely now were the want to go with those vibratos. Harmonics a really not an issue for this band, they handle themselves very well with their harmonics, and they don’t really get old.

The band has an excellent drummer he keeps things going along pretty smoothly he does a nice job. I’m not an expert with drums at all; I can’t even keep a beat for more than a measure so I don’t have a lot to say about them other than that I think they are good for this band.

Alley is a skilled vocalist who also has a lot of potential that again is not really obvious on this album. She is probably one of the most talented female vocalists in metal right now, although her vocals are a little bit sloppy compared to those of Angela Gassow from
Arch enemy but they are stronger and a more impressive than Angela’s.

I don’t really ever pay that much attention to the bass in any band because I don’t really like bass; it’s only there in my opinion to make everything sound thicker. This bassist however is a really good bassist that you can hear often on this album and he does a really good job, his finger work often watches that of the guitarists. That’s the only reason that I can appreciate him, he riffs on his bass, which is awesome.

A variety of damage is in my opinion the best song on the cd, it has a nice combination of breakdowns and harmonized riffs. The song starts of with a simple chord progression (the drummer does some cool stuff here) and from there they go into a breakdown, a really good breakdown. After that a pretty fast paced harmonized riffs gives the song a nice sound. The song stops for a second after that and alley comes in with a few words in her normal voice, and then the song goes into another break down. It starts of with a pretty decent scream and then she layers the vocals so that there is a high scream and a deep one going at the same time, it’s so awesome, this song is some of there best work and it shows their potential as a group. It makes me want to buy their next cd when It comes out, so give them a chance I’m sure that they will be a lot better in the future.

Instead of constantly repeating words like "good" and "stuff" try to get more detailed in your analysis. If you say every song is good it is hard to get a grasp as to how they really compare to each other. I read the whole review and I don't feel as if I learned anything about the album.

You really need to fix up the spelling, grammar and capitalisation as well.

This review could of been so much better. This band could too, but I do agree about the riffs. The vocals could be better too.

I actually remember going to shows in Ypsilanti in the early 2000's to see these guys when they were still called Friction and Mr. Flemming was on vocals. Their Longest Journey, Shortest Day 2001 release is IMO heads and shoulders better than anything they released as Bloodlined Caligraphy. They just sound so generic now, it's too bad.

It's good that you keep trying. Quick observation: you use the word "really" way too often. Makes you sound like a grade 6 student. Practice makes perfect, keep writing.
