United State of Electronica are a band that formed after the band ‘Wonderful’ pretended to play as a techno band on stage one night. They are all the members of the band Wonderful and a couple more back up singers. One listen through their debut album and one thing is evident, this band is heavily influenced by Daft Punk, which a couple of the band members just happen to be big fans of.
Pros: All of the songs except the break songs are very melodic which is what appealed to me as I listened through it. Another thing that stands out is that the band is based on a pretty positive message and they are all about dancing and having a good time. Except for the basslines on the songs ‘Emerald City’ and ‘It is On.’ The album also has a live feel to it and you feel like your very connected with what’s going on. Unlike most Daft Punk albums there are words in every song.
Negative: One of the most annoying things about dance music like this is that it gets unbelieveably repetitive fast. So in order to listen to it, you have to be in that mood and have that certain kind of laid back mental state. The singer also uses a vocorder on almost every song.
Overall, this is album is just fun to listen and has a couple of good tracks that separate themselves from the others on the cd. I also believe that their influence from Daft Punk is far to heavy, to the point that you could listen to a Daft Punk album and then listen to this and they sound exactly the same. You also have to be in a mood to appreaciate this album, not that it’s not meant to be taken seriously but it’s just meant to be a fun album and has no other use other than that. The music in this album is not meant to be analyzed very heavily which takes away from the enjoyment of the album.
