Not bad, not bad at all. All Bad is a decent first effort from a cosmopolitan rapper in Colorado and has some interesting moments. Although at times it seems to be somewhat unfocused, John Gillettes music appears to work on several levels. That, in my book, is a good thing.

The recommended tracks suggested by his publicist are certainly good. But I believe one overlooked gem on this CD is the song All I Want. It does not seem to try as hard to make you like it as the other tunes do which is its strength. There is a lot to be said for subtlety and this cut cuts to the chase in its own unique way.

Another diamond in the rough was Get Rite. From the opening bars until the coda with several clever cadences along the way this would probably be my second favorite recording after All I Want. Really a very memorable piece of music from Gillette that is razor sharp (forgive the pun).

This is an interesting singer and I suggest if you follow the up and coming then JG is certainly someone to keep on your radar. As an artist John still has room to grow so we will see what he comes up with next.
