One of the "Big Five" American orchestras. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra ("CSO" for short) was founded in 1891 and remains one of themost
critically lauded in the world to this day. In 2008, they were voted the United States' best orchestra by the editors of Gramophonemagazine and
have accumulated over sixty Grammy Awards since the 1960s.
Pierre Boulez, Sir. George Solti and Fritz Reiner have all had spells conducting for them. Riccardo Muti is the current principle conductor
andmusic director.
