Slapshock was a nu metal/metalcore band from the Philippines. Forming in 1996, they are known for being one of the first, and one of the biggest, nu metal acts to come out of Asia. Three of their records went platinum, while one of of the records went gold, in their homeland of the Philippines. Starting with 2004's "Novena", Slapshock greatly distanced themselves from nu metal, and have since been regarded as a metalcore act. In 2020, it was announced that frontman Jamir Garcia was accused of stealing money from the digital sales of the band, and Slapshock then officially disbanded that October. In November of the same year, Garcia killed himself via hanging, passing away at the young age of 42.
