Baku was a short lived Japanese punk rock band that formed in 1988. Fronted by Soichi Taniguchi, Baku soon developed a huge
cult following for their light, playful style. The group reached their peak commercially with their 1991 album, "Kikoeru ~Power of
Dreams", which remarkably reached number 3 on the Oricon charts. Sadly, Baku disbanded in 1992, at the height of their newly
found popularity. Both Taniguchi and guitarist Koji Kurumatani would go on to become solo artists, with Taniguchi disappearing
from the limelight in 1997. Kurumatani, on the other hand, became one of the most iconic figures in Japanese alternative rock,
as not only a solo artist, but also as one-half of the breakthrough indie duo Spiral Life.
