Charles! No Charles formed in Los Alamitos, California during the Summer of 2004. The band was founded by guitarist/singer Derek Humphrey and drummer Jonathan Garcia. The band quickly went through multiple other members and arrangements, until it settled upon the combination of Aaron Kosaka on rhythm guitar and Michael Hearn on bass and trumpet. The band went through an incredibly unproductive period, with Derek coming up with only a few really solid tunes. Eventually the band let Aaron go, and somehow Derek entered a phase of creativity, which was filled with enough strong songs to begin work on their first album: Get Out of My Head. The band recorded over several weeks and ended up with a poorly produced, yet impressive musically, album. As Nick James said in his review of the album, "While Get Out Of My Head is a good album, by the standards of high school kids creating music, there are several flaws." After recording the album, the band quickly recruited keyboardist Donovan Saldivar to join them and play their first show, the Create Amnesty Club's Open Mic Night for Guantanamo Bay at Los Alamitos High School on January 11th, 2008. The band was the first to play, although nobody arrived at that time, and also was the second to last actual band to play the show. The set went over very well, and the band set their eyes on the Send AIDS to the Moon concert. The band decided not to work on any new material, and Derek began to write songs with just himself in mind. The Talent Show gig ended up being a success also, one of the best received of the night, but immediately following that the band stopped playing together. It was a few months before they decided to reform, with the same four members as they left with, and now they are busy working on the songs that will form their next album: Sun Don't Shine. The album is due to be released during the Winter of 2008/09. Keep checking the band's MySpace page for more information. « hide
