Gene Krupa

Gene Krupa was a highly influential drummer, active within the jazz and big band scenes of 1920’s through the 1940’s. Easily recognizable for his extremely flamboyant and animated playing styling, the musician’s rolls and fills would become highly influential on a myriad of jazz and rock drummers that followed. Many jazz historians also believe Krupa to be the first kit drummer to ever record with a brass bass pedal; his further development of the modern drum kit is also hailed as influential to the position. Gene Krupa is also recognized as inventing the rim shot on the snare drum, as well as tunable snare drums.
