Ginko Mirai, better known as Gwinko (pronounced “Ginko”), is a Japanese pop singer. Getting her start in 1986 at the young age of 13, she would be a part of the 1980s idol pop boom, although her voice and dancing style would separate her from the rest, along with a highly westernized sound that took influence from freestyle music and R&B. Although not incredibly successful during her run, she would over the years garner a massive cult following which would stretch overseas. Gwinko would retire from music in 1995 at the age of 22 upon getting married, although she would return to music in 2020 after 25 years as one-half of the folk duo Kina & Gwinko Worldchamploo, a tremendous departure from her style in the 1980s and 1990s.
