Gyris is the brainchild of bedroom guitarist and composer Sean Kent. A self-taught musician and producer by nature, nothing
he creates ever fits a specific genre. In fact, he so despises his music being categorized into a label, that whenever someone
asks him to describe his music, he usually replies with "You don't need words to describe music". Rather, he describes the
person who would be most likely to enjoy listening to his music:

he creates ever fits a specific genre. In fact, he so despises his music being categorized into a label, that whenever someone
asks him to describe his music, he usually replies with "You don't need words to describe music". Rather, he describes the
person who would be most likely to enjoy listening to his music:
"Someone with an ear for classical music... someone who has the ability to find an implicit relationship with the sounds, and
create their own meaning and story to go with it... someone who thinks as I do: that you don't need words to make music
beautiful or relevant in today's culture"
A visionary, and firm believer that the current status quo of the music industry is a farce, Gyris attempts to take ego out the
equation. The name "Gyris" is a misspelled rendition of the neuroscience term 'gyrus', which is a bump or curve in the cerebral
cortex. Basically, the name of Sean's project is "My Brain". When asked why he chose such an obscure term for a band name,
re replied with the following:
"I do not believe in the simple explanation that 'I' created this music. What really allows us to understand and comprehend
music in the first place, is our brains. What allows us to create and feel and be human, is our brains. Your brain controls
everything... your heart, your emotions, pain, pleasure... you are your brain. I'm merely giving credit to the true vessel that
channels my creative output: Gyris" « hide |
