Hikaru Genji

Hikaru Genji were a Japanese pop boy band that formed in 1987. Along with Shonentai and SMAP, Hikaru Genji were responsible for truly breaking the Johnny's Entertainment boy band business into the Japanese mainstream. Following a core lineup change, the group adopted the alias of Hikaru Genji Super 5 in 1994. The group officially split a year later. In Hikaru Genji's impressive, and relatively short history, they managed to become the second musical artist in Japanese music history to simultaneously dominate the Oricon top three single charts and the second (and last) artist in Johnny's history to win the Japan Record Award at the 1988 30th Japan Record Awards.
