Hungry Young Poets were a short lived pop rock band from the Philippines. Formed in 1996, Hungry Young Poets was originally a
duo consisting ofBarbie Almarbis on vocals and guitar and Ricci Gurango on bass. However, soon afterwards, drummer
FranklinBenitez joined, solidifying Hungry YoungPoets as a trio. By the end of the year, the group released its only album, which
was self-titled, to impressive underground fame. However, by mid-1998, Gurango left Hungry Young Poets to join the group,
Mojofly, and since Gurango owned the name of Hungry Young Poets, the initial incarnation ofthe group disintegrated, although
Almarbis and Benitez both went on to form Barbie's Cradle, which had impressive success in their homeland of thePhilippines.
