Imani Coppola

Born in 1978, Imani Coppola was raised in Long Island, New York, and played violin as a child. She rose to fame in 1997 with her hit "Legend of a Cowgirl." The song went into heavy rotation on MTV and broke the top 40 in both the UK and the US. Follow-up hits proved unsuccessful and Coppola was dropped by the label soon thereafter. Since then, she's released more than half a dozen independent albums, as well as three with Little Jackie, an R&B/pop group she formed with producer Adam Palin. Coppola's interesting musical style has earned her comparisons to Beck, Kenna, Bob Dylan, Missy Elliott, and De La Soul.
