On Christmas 1954 Johnny Ace performed what would be his last show at the City Auditorium in Houston, TX. Ace (real name John Marshall Alexander Jr.), a Memphis, TN born R&B singer, was one of Duke Records most successful artists and had recorded a string of hit singles. Backstage at the City Auditorium Ace, a gun enthusiast, was playing with a .22 handgun which unnerved his girlfriend and several others.
