Journey To Aspen

"I've got good friends on all four sides and the sound of your voices is making my life tonight" There are 6 boys from St. Catharines for whom truer words have never been spoken. "I've got good friends on all four sides and the sound of your voices is making my life tonight" There are 6 boys from St. Catharines for whom truer words have never been spoken. Founded in the summer of 2007 by a few friends looking to have a good time and meet new people, Journey to Aspen has become a desire and a dream to everyone involved. For Scotty, Eric, Jeremy, Josh, Rob and Alex it is a reality for which all of them are willing to put pieces of their lives on hold. From dropping out of school to moving half way across a country, everyone in J2A has made sacrifices to become bigger and better than they were. J2A is about moving forward and working as hard as possible for themselves because they know that nothing will be handed to them. Even though J2A has gone through several member changes they have always kept a positive attitude towards their future as a band and this attitude is paying off. "When adding Jeremy and Josh as their new guitarists, they knew it would dramatically change their sound, but they knew it was going to be a positive change. Jeremy and Josh both have different styles of playing guitar but collectively they mesh so well together that you would think they had gone to the same teacher and been playing together for years. The J2A rhythm section is Scotty Blake on the drums and Rob Paulin on bass guitar. Scott's intense practice and dedication has made him a drummer to be envied by any band. Rob is one of the newest members, but he's not a stranger to the stage. With extensive touring experience in local hardcore act "Storyteller", Rob brings a mix of talent and experience to the band that they had been looking for to round out their young but skillful roster. Just as the band believed they understood exactly where they wanted to go musically and who they were going to go there with, they met Alex Vados(aka DJ LaFortune). They played a show with Alex's former band "Clap for Closure" and became great friends almost instantly. Two months later, a lot of nagging, a couple of flights and one very emotional song written, Alex had packed up his life and moved to St. Catharines. Alex brings the party with him everywhere he goes, taking J2A staples and making them even more danceable. His personality on stage and his ear for pop production made him the final element J2A needed. So what do you get when you mix in a pop/acoustic writer, two metal guitarists, a DJ/synth player from the competitive Montreal club scene, and two of the most synchronous rhythm musicians to ever play together? The answer is not definable by typical genre labels instead the boys in J2A prefer labels like "fun", "contagious" and "inspiring". In a musical era where everyone feels the need to define themselves by labels and then try to tell their listeners that they are doing something different than the next band, Journey to Aspen aims a little bit higher. They write from the heart, they play from the heart and they understand that music is a relationship between listeners and performers. Each concert is a chance to make new friends and to make a connection so rare and unique with each person. Perhaps Eric sums it up best when he says: "The word 'original' is far too over used for bands struggling to stand out, instead we strive to be 'different', to be accessible, to be fun and to be ourselves..." « hide
