Hailing from Washington DC, Liz Janes started out by making the “mistake” of giving one of her lo-fi cassette recordings to Mike Kaufmann (future husband, future Asthmatic Kitty staff, future Future Rapper) who played her songs to a new friend of his in Brooklyn - one Sufjan Stevens. Shortly thereafter Sufjan surprised Liz by offering to produce her debut record; and the rest as they say is history - Janes' debut album Done Gone Fire was released in early 2001 to considerable acclaim. In 2004 came Janes' sophomore effort, Poison and Snakes; a collaborative album between Janes and Los Angeles-based free jazz collective, Create (!) came a little over a year later.
Say Goodbye - Janes' latest studio effort - was released in late 2010.
