Modern Talking were a pop duo consisting of Thomas Anders (lead vocalist) and Dieter Bohlen (songwriter, producer, background vocalist). Formed in 1983, the duo scored its first success a year later with the song „You're My Heart, You're My Soul“, a number one hit in several European countries. The follow-up singles also fared well, with 1986's „Brother Louie“ also reaching the top five of the British charts. The follow-up singles also fared well, with 1986's „Brother Louie“ also reaching the top five of the British charts. Around the same time, they were the first Western band whose records are officially sold in the Soviet Union. In the rest of Europe, their popularity decreased, and tensions between Bohlen and Anders led to their initial split in 1987. Bohlen then founded his project Blue System, while Anders pursued a solo career.
The duo reformed in 1998 and released the album „Back for Good“ with eurodance versions of their 1980s songs. The album was a huge success, and one studio album per year has been released until 2003 due to new tensions in the duo which led to another split. Bohlen is nowadays active as a judge on the German version of Pop Idol, while Anders continues his solo career.
To date, Modern Talking have sold more than 120 million records worldwide, making them the most successful German music act of all time, even outselling Boney M. and the Scorpions.
