Phil Lynott

Best known as the guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and front-man of Thin Lizzy, Phil Lynott launched a solo career in 1980 and fronted theband Grand Slam from 1984-1985 before returning again to his solo career in late 1985 shortly before his death. Like many 'rock 'n rollers' ofhis generation, Lynott's lifestyle had been plagued by alcohol and drug dependency. A long undiagnosed infection caused his sudden collapseat the end of 1985. Sadly, Lynott succumbed to pneumonia and heart failure in the intensive care ward of Salisbury Hospital, UK. He is buried inSt. Fintan's cemetery, Sutton, Dublin, Ireland. A life-size, anatomically correct, bronze statue of Philip was unveiled on Harry Street, off GraftonStreet, Dublin in August 2005.
