Pulp Culture is a four-piece, progressive rock band from southeast Michigan, devoted to DIY ethics and sharing music with
the community.

the community.
The band hosts reputably charitable, energetic live events and incorporates a wide array of influences into performances and
art, transcending the creative process and connecting people through music and awareness.
The band is known for its charitable contributions to The Greening of Detroit, Help for Our Disabled Troops, Pesticide Action
Network, and Save Japan Dolphins. Pulp Culture has opened for national acts, including the Misfits, TesseracT, Intronaut, and
Cult of Luna. Their first, full-length release, "What Do You Want?" was published on January 30th, 2014, and has been called
"awesome eclectic stuff; it's a fantastic mix of 70s prog in the vein of King Crimson, modern psychedelic rock, math rock and
jazz-funk [...] (a) crystal-line masterpiece" (http://bit.ly/RTAQmz) The album, recorded at Metro 37 Studios in the Fall of
2013, is a science fiction rock opera with personal depth and a transcendental message.
Jake Van Loon had developed guitar parts to form a group for a long time. In the summer of 2012 his ideas culminated with
the band's first drummer, Vince Monte. In August Jake asked Alex if he had any interest in being the front-man for the
project, looking to add a more melodic direction and experimental atmospheres. Alex's other group fell into hiatus right after
Phen passed away, and he was avid to help found Pulp Culture.
Alex presented the project to Andrew who then offered to produce their first demo as a favor in January 2013. After a few
new guitar overlays were recorded Andrew began playing second guitar to provide more live counterpoint.
Vince motioned to quit the band as soon as the full-length was finished at Metro 37 Studios, contending that he wanted to
work full-time in a molding shop. The band quickly replaced him. Mike Frizzell auditioned to be in the band in February. A
retired combat veteran, wearing a Purple Heart at the age of 25, the band taught him the material and began hosting a series
of momentous events. « hide |
