Pussy Riot is a highly controversial all-female punk band from Russia that have been active since 2011. The group, which is mainly a performance art protest act, have attracted mass controversy and large condemnation in their home country due to their many performances and songs slamming Vladimir Putin and the Russian Orthodox Church. The controversy of their performances reached a head in 2012 when a few of the members, including unofficial leader Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, being incarcerated for two years.

All the members that were arrested, including Tolokonnikova, ended up leaving Pussy Riot in 2014 following their release, although the members were still under fire in Russia, with the former Pussy Riot members being attacked by Russian militants. Although not as active as they were, Pussy Riot remain somewhat active today, usually releasing a few singles a year with a revolving-door lineup. « hide |
