In the shadowy pubs and basements of London, on any given night of the week, you might chance upon Skinny Girl Diet thrashing out punk songs to wide-eyed audiences. The trio – made up of sisters Delilah and Ursula, vocals and drums, along with their cousin Amelia on bass – are bringing feminist art punk back into context at a time when it’s never felt more relevant. Their grunge riffs might sound older than they are – they were all born in the mid-90s – but their lyrics tackle subjects, such as unachievable female beauty standards, that are critical in 2015. The band started playing together when they were in their early teens as a way to meet other like-minded, guitar-playing girls, and they stick by that today - “I’ve never really cared about being successful, I just wanted to meet girls who were interested in the same kind of music as me”, Delilah says. One of their song titles, which might as well be a band slogan, is Girl Gang State of Mind. « hide
