Smash was a Spanish progressive rock band founded in Seville in 1968, which gained popularity through the Spanish underground
scene. It was one of the pioneers of Andalusian rock, fusing the progressive rock of bands such as King Crimson (or psychedelic,
like Vanilla Fudge) with the traditional flamenco music of Andalusia. Smash was one of the key groups in the development of
progressive rock in Spain, along with Módulos and Màquina!.
The band was led by multi-instrumentalist Gualberto García. The production of some singles was followed by the release of two

The band was led by multi-instrumentalist Gualberto García. The production of some singles was followed by the release of two
albums: Glorieta de los lotos (1970) and We come to smash this time (1971). In 1971, flamenco singer Manuel Molina
joined Smash and contributed to renovate the sound of the group. In 1978, Smash released Vanguardia y pureza del
flamenco, a compilation which comprises the flamenco-oriented singles of this period, in opposition to the progressive rock
sound of the first two albums. They disbanded in 1973. « hide |
