She is often compared to songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Carole King. Sundfør is also inspired byJeffBuckley, Radka Toneff,Ane Brun and Thomas Dybdahl. Her lyrics often deals with personal subject matters such as “Africa, America”, “Time out, time”, “It’s all gone tomorrow”orcontemporaryissues (“Opium”).In march 2007 she released her self-titled album “Susanne Sundfør”, which received great critics. She won the price for “best female vocalist” at Spellemannsprisen 2008, and was nominated in the category “year’snewcomer”aswell. As areaction from her controversial short speech about her opinion of "the best FEMALE vocalist"-category,an engagingdebate ensued.Sundfør’s second album is entitled “The Brothel”, and was be released on March 15, 2010. The first single, which also isthetitletrack, hadpremiere on Norwegian radios on January 28th 2010. The single received excellent reviews fromseveralnewspapers in Norway, giving it6/6.The album was a big departure from the singer/songwriter-piano girl label she had gotten after her first album. With the help ofJagaJazzist'sLars Horntvedt she created a pop album acclaimed for its grandiose, yet macabre presentation, densesoundscapes andunpredictablestructures. The album sold beyond exceptions and was one of the most bought Norwegianalbums at the end of 2010.It also introducedSusanne Sundfør to an international audience, albeit small in comparison to theattention received in her homecountry. « hide |
