Takashi Kokubo (小久保隆, born 1956 in Tokyo) is a Japanese new age and ambient composer and sound environment designer and a representative of the kankyō ongaku movement. In 1992 and 1993, he has released his most important work: a series of 10 albums (in two sets of 5), titled Ion Series, designed primarily as soundscapes for office workers and, in one case, a sound installation. Outside of his albums, Kokubo has been instrumental in creating the sound identity of Japan, from the nationally-used mobile phone earthquake alert sound to credit card payment jingles.
