A choreographer-turned-singer, Toni Basil is best-known for her 1982 smash hit "Mickey," which went to #1 in the US and #2 in the UK. Her
debut album, "Word of Mouth," also included the hit "Shoppin' A to Z." Her follow-up, 1983's "Toni Basil," was a commercial disaster, spawning
only one hit single, "Over My Head," and failing to chart anywhere.
Considered both pop and new wave, Basil stylistically resembles Madonna and the Go-Go's. She walked away from the music industry and
returned to working in choreography.
