At the Speed of Ten Machines is the third, full length disc by Voice box. From the opening strains of Whir of the City to the anthemic, Carib-
shimmer of The Missing Peace, Voice box accentuates its eclectic, musical vision with a detailed ear. Listeners have cited, Bowie, Zappa,
Eno, the groove of T-REX, Yes, Radio and Talking Heads, the explosions of Pink Floyd and King Crimson, Blues for Allah period Grateful
Dead, White Album Beatles, Peter Gabriel and Genesis, The Neville Brothers, Be Bop Deluxe and Rush. The twelve tracks resonate from the
influential palette of the Rock Mantra. There are no love songs on Ten Machines. Let others do the easy work. Each track is a snapshot, an
unmade film, aurally visual, accessible to the listeners imagination. Guitars and horns wail over jerking rhythm sections and samples
traverse foreign landscapes, urging you to sing along.The camera sees hope, decadence, and skewed optimism in the face of
oblivion.“You’ve got a negative view and you watch the Clock. Why don’t you lighten up, and love, and rock.” And so you “hit the gas,” driving
on with Voice box, At the Speed of Ten Machines.
Bruce Fournier Vocals/Lyrics, has been writing, recording and performing in Chicago quasi ad infinitum. He’s written hundreds of songs and
verse, as well as short stories, drawing from a diverse palette of influences and inspirations. Bruce’s convictions are both strong and
serious, their presence felt, but his sense of humor remains intact. “Every track should be quality, every performance the best you can give,
no settling, but we can’t all be supermen, now can we.”
JD Kostyk, Guitar/Vocals, who’s been with Voice box from the onset, is the driving, no, overdriving force of the group. His focus and
compositions are inspired and his stage gymnastics a highlight of the live set.
Jim Quinn, Percussion, is the “wild card” of the live show. Jim brings a world music perspective that can settle or put Voice box on the edge,
and in some cases, over it.
Bill Epperson, Bass Guitar/Vocals, has been playing bass guitar for over ten years, playing in numerous projects in the Chicago area and
beyond. With influences ranging from jazz fusion to punk rock, Bill adds a funky and technical aspect to Voice box's sound, all while
interjecting flashes of raw, all out rocking power. Bill also plays piano, double bass, cello, and violin.
Ian Hough, has been playing, performing and writing music since the age of nine. At the age of thirteen though, a magazine ad featuring a
green alien playing a red squire strat changed everything. Since then via scores of bands and genres Ian's life journey thus far has been to
take a simple set of six strings and use them to translate his abstract inner workings into the physical world of sound and vibration.
Chuck Kazarian, Drum kit, had his first experiences with percussion were at home as a toddler where he would listen to various jazz and
Latin compositions while he beat on pots and pans with wooden spoons. During his youth, he received 6 years of music education from
various faculty from DePaul University School of Music in a variety of percussion instruments and styles to include classical, jazz and Latin
rhythms. Over the years he had performed with countless musicians and in studio projects as well provided private lessons in percussion. « hide |
