Whipping Boy was a hardcore punk band from California that first formed in 1981. Originally an abrasive, loud noise-induced act, Whipping Boy
laterbecame much more diverse, with the group managing to experiment with psychedelia, post-punk and avant-garde by 1985. In 1989, Whipping
Boysplit, and the vocalist (Eugene Robinson) and guitarist (Niko Wenner) both went on to form the cult noise/avant-garde band Oxbow immediately
afterWhipping Boy split.
