Here we go again |
10 | | Ornette Colemon Ornette on Tenor |
9 | | Sonny Rollins What's New? |
8 | | John Coltrane Ballads |
7 | | The Modern Jazz Quartet The Comedy |
6 | | Dave Brubeck Countdown: Time in Outer Space |
5 | | Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers Caravan
Another stellar release by Art Blakey, this album moves, and the jazz messengers are spot on as always. |
4 | | Duke Ellington Money Jungle
A staple for any jazz fan, this is one of The Duke's best. Backed by Charles Mingus and Max Roach, this is one of the best big band albums of all time. |
3 | | Freddie Hubbard Hub-Tones
This is about the time when Hubbard started getting really good and releasing really awesome records, Hub-Tones being the beginning of which. |
2 | | Joe Morello It's About Time
This album took me a while to track down, but it was worth it. I've loved Morello since I heard his work with Brubeck and when I found out he had a few solo albums, I needed to track at least one down. I'm probably heavily biased against this because I love his drumming so much, but this is a great album. |
1 | | John Coltrane Ole Coltrane
I don't know if it would be right to call this album underrated, but it flew under my radar for a long time. When I finally did discover it, it blew my socks off. Another classic by Trane with the quartet sounding as good as ever. |
