12.04.12 | My description might scream MBP+ret but i would really prefer to get a PC. |
Winsomniac
12.04.12 | Don't care about graphics? Wait for the ASUS Taichi to come out.
Bitchin' doesn't even begin to describe it.
Coincidentally, since you're obviously rich, wanna foot me some money to rebuild my desktop? Life happened to it. |
Winsomniac
12.04.12 | Oh and I forgot. Info: http://www.asus.com/vivo/en/taichi.htm |

12.04.12 | ASUS laptops are awesome, way cheaper than Mac Books and just as good |
theacademy
12.04.12 | im a little skeptical about the first batch of laptop touchscreens
wont they be all buggz |
theacademy
12.04.12 | also i know asus machines work well but i want one that's well built on the outside as well. it doesn't have to be the prettiest thing but i need something that won't break (physically, heating issues, etc) |
Winsomniac
12.04.12 | Meh. It seems relatively good, but if you don't care for the dual-screened half-touch badassery that is the Taichi, just go for one of the Zenbook Primes. Also ridiculously slim, fast with SSD, ultraportable, just don't expect it to run many games.
If you DO, however, want an amazing gaming laptop that also happens to look like a stealth bomber fucked a laptop... http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G55VW/ |
Winsomniac
12.04.12 | And as far as "heating issues" go, almost all laptops will inevitably encounter issues with heat dispersal. If you don't want to bother with a dorky laptop cooler, I would just be careful not to leave it on for extended periods of time without at least putting it to sleep mode. |
theacademy
12.04.12 | no i know that, but i mean certain brands have (based in my limited experience with particular models) been worse than others
for example, the last three machines ive had have been 2 toshibas and a dell. the toshibas (satellites) were much more prone to overheating than the dell (latitude) |
theacademy
12.04.12 | sure these generalizations aren't necessarily the best advice to go on but id still welcome them from anyone |
DotEight
12.04.12 | Well my degree is in computer science so I'll try to help you out.
As far as SSD's go, what are you going to be using it for? It sounds like you're just getting this for everyday use, and SSD's are still way overpriced and not worth it unless you need quick hard drive access.
Toshiba laptops have awesome displays, but they aren't the most quality laptops out there.
Lenovo laptops are personally my favorite, along with ASUS. Don't buy a Dell or HP, complete shit laptops. |
Winsomniac
12.04.12 | I have an ASUS laptop currently, and haven't been having overheating issues. ASUS makes good tech, and usually has at least a 1 year warranty that also covers accidental damage to back it up.
If you're really insecure about having issues, you can always just get something from Costco. 2 Year extended warranty standard with all their computers, iirc. |

12.04.12 | my father bought a really expensive HP laptop and the harddrive failed in less than a year |
Winsomniac
12.04.12 | That IS unfortunate. Costco is the economic staple of my collegiate life.
So about that money... |

12.04.12 | Size of display and Budget are kind of the corner stones of beginning to research a laptop acad. |
