Superb Doom Metal Albums

Some of my favorite doom metal albums.
1Katatonia
Dance of December Souls

One of my all time favorite albums, Dance of December Souls is a punishing and treacherous album and you will feel every ounce of pain shown by the band, Jonas's vocals are amazing and the music is incredible.
2Candlemass
Nightfall

One of the most epic albums out there... period. Candlemass take their signature sound found in their debut and take it to the next level, better riffs, and more amazing songs all throughout, also Messiah is an awesome vocalist.
3 Pagan Altar
Lords of Hypocrisy

A somewhat under appreciated band, although they take sounds forged by bands like Black Sabbath and Witchfinder General and make it even better. Extremely epic is way you could describe this album, the concept only further pushes this amazing album. The guitar work is quite flawless and the music is consistently incredible, although the vocals will irk some people this is an essential doom album.
4Ahab
Call of the Wretched Sea

Easily my favorite funeral doom album, slow, pounding and punishing, the songs although to some may seem boring are journeys in themselves, the whole album has a superb atmosphere that makes you think of the sea, just like it intends to.
5Doomsword
Let Battle Commence

Epic doom metal mixed with viking metal? Sounds damn good to me, and it is. This album has some seriously great riffs all throughout, and the vocals are also awesome.
6Empyrium
Songs of Moors and Misty Fields

Easily the best of the Empyrium metal material, here we have doom metal with a very large amount of folk influence. All in all this release is very atmospheric with great vocals and musicianship overall, Empryium can do no wrong.
7 Witchfinder General
Death Penatly

Like Pagan Altar these fellows are also very influenced by the likes of Black Sabbath, and they are some seriously awesome traditional doom metal. Very good riffs all throughout, the songs are extremely memorable, my only real bad complaint is that the album is only 30 minutes long.
81000 Funerals
Portrait of a Dream

Another fantastic funeral doom album, this one uses lots of soft haunting keyboards all throughout to create eerie haunting atmospheres, the music is all very slow as is the tradition in funeral doom yet it is digestible and very good.
9 Zebulon Pike
The Deafening Twighlight

Awesome instrumental doom metal that doesn't drag too much.
10Worship
Dooom

Another great funeral doom album released this year, very heavy and really great all around.
