03.28.13 | I tried to include all of my post-rock bands, but I had to leave out a few albums to fit it into one list. I have a whole lot of post-rock on my iPod, since it's my favorite genre. I've heard Talk Talk, Mono, and so many other popular post-rock bands, but is there anything obscure or a great album that I haven't heard? Rec. me some stuff. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | Oh yeah, iPod Classic 160 GB > Other shtuff.
It's all about the music storage capacity - fuck apps. |
demigod!
03.28.13 | no offense but do you really need more post-rock? seems like you have plenty already. have you heard bark psychosis |
tragic.details
03.28.13 | damn dude, even with my 160g I don't think I carry this much of a single genre.
Anyways, check it out Slow Six. |
Artuma
03.28.13 | Woah, there's like 10000 hours of post rock in your iPod and it isn't enough? |
RadicalEd
03.28.13 | not enough post rock. |
YankeeDudel
03.28.13 | 100 albums for one genre isnt that much at all. with a 160 gb ipod 100 albums is only about 8-10 gbs.
but hey listen to set fire to flames, dirty three, worlds end girlfriend, hash jar tempo, rachel's, samuel jackson five, do make say think, labradford, gastr del sol, the for carnation, and jaga jazzist. not very obscure but you dont have em listed. |
YankeeDudel
03.28.13 | yea jizue is sexy
man i havent listened to post-rock in a while tho got kinda bored of it been post-punkin and jazzin alot. maybe ill jam now. |
Relinquished
03.28.13 | nice list. there's no post-metal like you said there is. |
sideburndude
03.28.13 | damn that's alot |
Artuma
03.28.13 | "nice list. there's no post-metal like you said there is."
You don't count Russian Circles post-metal? |
Relinquished
03.28.13 | not at all |
YankeeDudel
03.28.13 | they are a little bit, but about as light as you can get |
Artuma
03.28.13 | I always have considered them as post-metal |
Pestiferous
03.28.13 | post-rock on my ipod:
|
Relinquished
03.28.13 | post-metal can mean that it's atmospheric sludge metal or metal influenced post-rock, which the latter would be them. but I see the former as the true meaning because even if at times they come close to sounding like something Isis would do in the Panopticon era, they don't sound like Celestial-era Isis. |
NorwichScene
03.28.13 | I haven't heard the first 30 |
FromDaHood
03.28.13 | maybeshewill, God is an Astronaut, Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson |
Artuma
03.28.13 | GIAA is hardly post-rock all the way but good stuff still |
Ecnalzen
03.28.13 | Jizue is so good. I haven't heard Bookshelf yet, but Novel is fantastic. They have kind of a similar vibe to Toe.
You might also try Gifts From Enola if you haven't heard them. From Fathoms and Loyal Eyes Betrayed The Mind are both pretty cool albums. |
omik1116
03.28.13 | God is an Astronaut, maybeshewill, au revoir, and the calm blue sea trump most of the things on this list. Also your missing the best hammock (chasing after shadows) and explosions in the sky (those who tell the truth...) |
omik1116
03.28.13 | "GIAA is hardly post-rock"
Umm, if its not, then what the heck is it? |
alachlahol
03.28.13 | having post rock on an ipod is mostly useless cause you cant drive to it nd you dont hang out with people while listening to it. i say delete it all and put some beatles on there instead |
omik1116
03.28.13 | @supercollider post-rock novice right here ^ |
Artuma
03.28.13 | Well it's mostly just instrumental rock, or so I have found them to be |
omik1116
03.28.13 | Oh ok I see where you're coming from |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | "alachlahol: having post rock on an ipod is mostly useless cause you cant drive to it nd you dont hang out with people while listening to it. i say delete it all and put some beatles on there instead
omik1116: @supercollider post-rock novice right here ^"
Yeah... I love driving to post-rock, one of my favorites for an evening drive with the stars out, or in the rain.
@RosaParks: I do... AS you can see from this list. Why wouldn't anyone else? I have 160 GB of room, and post rock is one of my favorite genres. Why wouldn't I include it in my portable collection?
I have heard GIAA, Mono, Isis (on the post-metal side), tortoise, rachel, dirty three, do make say think, and some others, but I will check out the new recs. Thanks guys. This list took a while to type up and has a lot of good stuff. My favorite band right now is The American Dollar so they would be my top rec to you along with Brontide. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | Russian Circles is post-metal, btw. |
scissorlocked
03.28.13 | vessels' helioscope is good but no way a 5 |

03.28.13 | "Russian Circles is post-metal, btw."
no way dumbass |
YankeeDudel
03.28.13 | alach has a point tho the only time i really listen to post-rock is when im at home and just wanna chill. when i used to study or write papers it was good too. if im drivin or hittin the gym post-rock is the last thing i wanna hear, unless the sun is setting and lightning bugs are prancing around. |
Drummerboy123
03.28.13 | You don't have God is an Astronaut on here?.......
Wtf man they are one of the best post-rock bands out there. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | @scissorlocked: Is it possible for us to have different opinions? haha
@Relinquished: Look just about anywhere but their site description here and you would see that they are listed as post-metal. They have a lot of post-rock influence, but they definitely aren't just because of the extremely heavy sections they have in some of their songs. They have a different sound when compared to bands like Mogwai or GY!BE... |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | @Yankeedudel: I agree dude I can't listen to it when I hit the gym, but when I am driving at night, which happens often, I love listening to it.
@Drummerboy123: I have a couple GIAA albums but none on my iPod at the moment. I just don't think they are anything special. I understand a lot of people like 'em though. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | Also, I am still in high school and our teachers are pretty lenient when it comes to letting us listening to music. I jam post-rock pretty hard when I am doing some English, Chemistry, or Trig homework. |
Drummerboy123
03.28.13 | "I just don't think they are anything special. I understand a lot of people like 'em though."
I think the complete opposite haha. They are one of the only post-rock bands I like. They got me into the genre and everything else afterwards just misses the flare they have. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | I got in with Mogwai... That explains a lot... GIAA and Mogwai sound quite a bit different, though, considered the same genre. |
Drummerboy123
03.28.13 | The Last Days
I Am the Architect

03.28.13 | DMST >>>>>>>ALL OTHER POSTROCK
also post rock was influenced by, amoung other things, ambient. Not the other way around. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | @kitsch: What's so bad about it? These are awesome albums... And I know it was influenced by ambient,
I never said otherwise. Do Make Say Think is a great band, I just don't have them on my iPod at the
moment - I have them in my iTunes though... |
SupercolliderMusic
03.28.13 | THE AMERICAN DOLLAR IS GOD. |
omik1116
03.28.13 | which of their albums should I start with? This is the first I'm hearing about them... |
SupercolliderMusic
03.29.13 | I'd listen in order from oldest to newest...
Start with... The American Dollar (s/t) |

yo omik116 ive been rockin post rock since before you got off your dads def leppard collection and started thinkin youre cool by listenin to all those shit bands in your favorite bands list (defeater excluded of course hehe),, judging by my views your taste in screamo is shit you like state faults and piano becomes the teeth and i dont even know any of the other bands you listed cause they all suck if they were any good i wouldve heard about them through my channels of good music that i receive on a daily basis also **newsflash** but you also think hammocks best album is chasing shadows which just so happens to be one of the worst probly cause it was the first hammock album you ever heard which means you need to fuck off forever probably even longer im gonna stick to my guns on this one listening to post rock in your car is cool if you like wasting gas on bad music its time to grow up and play the stooges you might learn a thing or two cause ill tell ya theres nothin quite like slamming that shifter into third gear and merging onto the mainline at 95 mph n not givin a fuck cause i know its what iggy wouldve done only hed have done it on coke,,, whatever suck 18 dicks omik116 |

minty901
03.29.13 | you need pg.lost's yes i am. also i love epic45 but cant find anywhere to buy a lot of their music online. especially the eps. is album leaf worth getting into? also get give me beauty by ef. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | Yes the album leaf is worth getting into... a lot of epic45 is available online as .rar files. @alachlahol: Worst rant I've seen on this site. BITCH.

03.30.13 | calling someone a bitch damn you're so tough :O |

03.30.13 | Thats a lot of post-rock. Some stuff here i need to check out. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | Most of it I would recommend to anyone. Lots of good stuff here. |
minty901
03.30.13 | holy shit shipping news are great. hadn't heard of them before. so much like slint but probably easier to get into. |
StallionMang
03.30.13 | @Supercollider
Should I get Spiderland? A lot of people really love that album, but a lot of critics don't, and say it's pretty pretentious. What's your opinion on the album? |
minty901
03.30.13 | read the comment above yours. shipping news is slint entry point. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | @minty901: I am glad you guys liked it!
@StallionMang: I really like it. It pioneered the genre. it is different from a lot of the newer post-rock, but still very good. It's dark. If you can enjoy a dark brand of post-rock, you'll love it. Like minty901 said, you could try listening to Shipping News, first.
|
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | For the most part, I thought Slint was loved by critics anyway. |
JS19
03.30.13 | I think you need more Post Rock. Not sarcasm. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | @JS19: Too bad I could only include 100 in a list, or there would be more.
How is that not sarcastic? I maxxed it out. lol |
JS19
03.30.13 | Everyone always needs more post rock. I own all but about eight of these albums and had run out of recommendation so cheers for them! If you need any recs I'm also happy to trade... |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | Sure rec me ten of your favorites! |
JS19
03.30.13 | Cool - I'll try and stay away from the obvious. That TWDY s/t album is my favourite album of all time too ha
- Caspian - Live at South Church (Free on Noisetrade btw - last track is the best thing ever)
- At The End Of The Ocean - Pacific Atlantic (Free on bandcamp)
- FareWell Poetry - Hoping For The Invisible to Ignite
- Final Days Society - Ours Is Not A Caravan Of Despair
- Her Name Is Calla - The Quiet Lamb
- Immanu El - They'll Come, They Come
- Lights Out Asia - Eyes Like Brontide
- The Pirate Ship Quintet - Rope For No Hopers
- Dirty Three - Ocean Songs
- Kyte - Dead Waves (Bordering on Indie pop but still post rocky, one of my fav albums)
Bear in mind loads of my other favs you mentioned or you'll probably have already heard (EF, rest of the Hammock discog, Laura ect) |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | I have At The End of The Ocean which is very good...
I have heard most of Dirty Three but I am not a big fan of it. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | I'll check out the others.
Yeah, Hammock and Laura are both wonderful. |
JS19
03.30.13 | Yeah Dirty Three is way more of an acquired taste than most of the rest of that list, but I'm lucky I learned to love it. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of those, but going by your list it should be right up your street |
SupercolliderMusic
03.30.13 | I guess so. I didn't enjoy it much Thanks for the recs, I've always meant to listen to Lights Out Asia, now I have another reason to |
minty901
03.31.13 | i feel like making a list like this myself. it would need to be done in multiple parts im sure. i have a pretty mammoth postrock collection. all of it legal too. its a pretty costly addiction. |
minty901
03.31.13 | http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/47424/Caspian-Live-At-Old-South-Church/ this still only has 15 ratings. it saddens me that so many people are missing out one of the most incredible, inspirational pieces of music ever made. every post-rock fan should go listen to sycamore live IMMEDIATELY |
JS19
03.31.13 | Ha Minty - it's still just the two of us desperately name-dropping that album across the whole of sputnik to get someone to listen to it |
minty901
03.31.13 | it is my undying mission to get everyone to experience that song. |
