04.09.13 | Converge is only metal in the same way Korn is metal. Which is to say, not really at all. |
Funeralopolis
04.09.13 | indie> |
SAPoodle
04.09.13 | Yeah I know... but still, they're more metal than many other "supposed" metal bands |
Funeralopolis
04.09.13 | they really aren't though |
Feels
04.09.13 | no need to be pedantic |
SAPoodle
04.09.13 | Why not? What I've always loved is that Converge are equal parts metal and hardcore
Edit: in response to Funeralopolis |

04.09.13 | I always look at Converge as a punk band, because of their rule free sound and their diy mentality.
Jacob said something along the lines of: "We started out as a punk rock band and that's where we still are now"
I know they have a lot of metal influences, but they don't feel like a metal band |
SAPoodle
04.09.13 | Definitely agreed dude. At the end of the day, we can just say Converge is awesome - who cares what genre they fall under. I just put Jane Doe there cos it's one of my favourite albums. What I really should have done is put Entombed and Esoteric instead and then we wouldn't be having this discussion |
MosesMalone
04.09.13 | True story: growing up I couldn't tell the difference between metal and hardcore. Now that I'm a bit older, I've realized that people only differentiate the two to have something to argue about. |
Feels
04.09.13 | Agreed. Imo if you wanna get THAT specific, Converge has covered many style over the years - metal just serves as an umbrella term |
Feels
04.09.13 | They are definitely very different genres. Sure they share similarities but the core elements and the roots are much different. |
owen
04.09.13 | Hardcore only sounds like metal to people who think all heavy music is metal |
MosesMalone
04.09.13 | I mean of course they're different genres, but I never understood why there's a divide between them as far as fans go and whatnot. It's loud and heavy either way, so both genres and their innumerable subgenres should be more readily accepted by the two respective fanbases. I dunno, I remember having a myspace argument back in the day with somebody about how it's silly to love black metal and hate grindcore, my argument being that they pretty much exist in the same sonic extreme. |

04.09.13 | Let me say it in the cheesiest way possible; metal is music, hardcore/punk is more than music |
Feels
04.09.13 | I know what you mean; I use to feel that way. But you'd be surprised how different they are. And LOL... black metal is WAAAAAY different than grindcore. Not even close. |
MosesMalone
04.09.13 | I guess that's why I've always preferred metal. /hypocrisy
Although I can totally respect the whole "hardcore-as-a-lifestyle" thing, I guess it's just not really for me. |
Feels
04.09.13 | Owantjaaaa is right. Just like punk(which is where hardcore came from) hardcore is more about a feeling and an emotion more than anything. I always liked this Pg.99's quote -
"Punk rock should mean freedom, playing whatever you want, as sloppy as you want as long as it's good and it has passion" |
owen
04.09.13 | That Page ninetynine song says it better than I'll ever can |
MosesMalone
04.09.13 | I know they're way different, but you can't say that Gnaw Their Tongues and Agoraphobic Nosebleed don't occupy similar spaces on the audio extremity spectrum. I'm running out of ways to express this, hah. |
JumpTheF**kUp
04.09.13 | Most of these reasons are the reasons why I think punk and hardcore are the best genres of music. |
Dolving999
04.09.13 | Almost all of those reasons are pretty much valid and reflect my opinion as well.
I mean, who can resist a good ol' "RAH RRRRRRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH RRRRRAAAAAHHHHHHHHH"? |

04.10.13 | Moses, that's like saying onions and oranges taste the same since they're both in the produce section of the grocery store. |
