Different color vinyl etc. For the ones where I own two of the same color (usually) it's from ordering something and getting the wrong color. Although lately, at least for of Montreal albums, I've been getting two of the limited colors so I can keep one unopened
So you are really actually collecting then? Alrightie then. Just seemed weird to me, because I only pretty much care about the music. I mean, it's nice to get a colored copy once in a while, but I don't really track those down specifically.
im only a completionist for two artists right now well i guess maybe three. of montreal, kishi bashi, and wampire. it's too expensive to be completionist with extant bands. buying out oM's entire catalogue (i'd say i'm like 95% completion at least for officially released media) cost thousands, so there's no way i'm doing it again for any other band. henceforth anything i do will just be for new bands to support.
i do like throwing money at my favorite bands, it's more about that than actually collecting.
i also usually buy most things on of Montreal's label as an indirect way of supporting them. I'm trying to slow down though. i do bi-monthly trips to the record stores to pick up about 5 vinyl and support the idea of it, but other than that i'm going to hold myself to 2-per-month max...i hope
thats funny clercqie, I just started mine but I found myself less apt to buy one if it wasnt colorful and pretty. Anthracks did you order alot thorough polyvinyl im guessing from all those "of montreal?"
yeah like i said i buy just about everything polyvinyl puts out. obviously i had to go to ebay and private sellers for the out-of-print stuff. luckily i actually really enjoy like 80% of the stuff PV puts out. lots of great, relatively unknown gems through them
they also give out free stuff. if you pre-order something they give you a free CD. most times it's something that they weren't able to get rid of, but i got a promotional of montreal CD one time which was pretty cool. plus the candy
Joyful Noise is also an incredibly inventive label as far as packaging / vinyl variety goes, but they are smaller and don't have a prolific roster by any means. i love to support them too
Same here. I try to buy my records at live shows if I can, otherwise the label or a local record store. I try to avoid online shops as much as possible.
Regarding labels: I really like the vinyl quality of Matador. My Kurt Vile records sound gorgeous on vinyl.
i'm kind of on a quest to own at least all of my 5's on vinyl, but every time i'm about to buy one i back out and think what's the point? especially for defunct artists
