Cipieron's Top 15 Of 2012

Revised my old '12 end of the year list. Wanted to slim it down and add in some albums I didn't discover till recently.
15Big Wreck
Albatross

This album's release reminded me a lot of Soundgarden's return. Both came out 10+
years after the band's last album. Both singers had gone off and done a solo thing
for several albums. And both singers either sound like, or actually are, Chris Cornell.
This album is wonderful.
14Art By Numbers
Reticence: The Musical

There are some days I still don't know what I think of this band, but I still find
myself coming back to this album. It's chaotic with hints of baroque influences.
Very interested to see what they do with Reticence II.
13Eye Empire
Impact

I was sad when Submersed, one of my favorite bands from back in the day, broke
up after only their second album. When I heard Donald Carpenter would be fronting
a new band, I was beyond ecstatic. Eye Empire is like Submersed's hard rocking
older brother.
12The Darkness
Hot Cakes

I originally didn't have this on my last '12 list, but fuck this album is just fun. Fuck
the haters. I love this band. They're cheesy and they know it. I saw them live in
Milwaukee and holy shit it was one of the best shows I've ever been to.
11The Siren Tower
A History of Houses

The third Aussie band on this list. I'm not huge into alt/indie rock, but this
completely blew my mind.
10Regina Spektor
What We Saw From the Cheap Seats

I didn't dig the direction she was going with Far, so this album really brought me
back to Team Spektor. This is her second best album right after Soviet Kitsch
9Coheed and Cambria
The Afterman: Ascension

A much improved record over the mediocre YotBR. Not as good as Descension imo,
but an amazing near-return to form for one of my favorite bands ever.
8Children of Nova
Impossible Landscape

Sad that these guys broke up after this, but what an amazing album to go out on.
They really filled my fix for bands like Closure in Moscow and Dead Letter Circus.
7Katatonia
Dead End Kings

This album is doomy and gloomy and beautiful and mesmerizing. My first venture
into this band, now to look backwards into their catalog.
6Soundgarden
King Animal

While I absolutely love DotU, the second half of that album really drops the ball.
This is wildly more consistant and a welcome return from this musical giant.
5Novallo
Novallo
4Showbaby
Hightail Cocktail

Unknown on Sputnik, but this is actually my 2nd favorite band after Fair to Midland.
Their mix of rock, pop, and soul is so delicious.. it's sad their original drummer just
left, but their new singles sound very promising. Check this band out guys.

3Periphery
Periphery II: This Time It's Personal

Sput haters be damned. I love Spencer's voice and he (and the rest of the band)
have greatly improved since their first album.
2Twelve Foot Ninja
Silent Machine

Australia takes the first two spots for the year. I've never heard a band blend so
many different genres into one sound that actually works.
1Breaking Orbit
The Time Traveller

This album came out of nowhere for me and leveled me. One of the best debut
albums from an Aussie band with tons of potential.
