Hello

Yeup
1Desperados
The Dawn of Dying

Sodom's frontman (Tom Angelripper) old side project. I think it's safe to say that Angelripper's vocals are, how should I put it, fucking badass. So imagine Tom's shrieked, black metal-esque vocals, scorching guitars, pulsing drums...and a motherfucking banjo. That's right, a motherfucking banjo. Western folk influenced heavy/thrash metal. That doesn't mean that every now and then you'll hear a little western fill to keep the imagine alive, oh no. Every song is riddled with country and western sounds, and when they get folky with "My Gun and Me" and their cover of "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky", it's just awesome. Tom left the band after this album though, and they don't have any of his songs up on their myspace, which is gay. So anyway, basically, this is like M-16 with western folk. Win.
2Headhunter
Parasite of Society

Another side project, this one by Destruction's frontman Schmier. Along with Angelripper, Schmier's vocals are fucking godly. Headhunter is very similar to Destruction, but they're not as harsh and utilize a shitload of melody. All in all, this is a really cool listen, but sometimes you wish they would just speed up, since it's kinda weird to hear Schmier actually try to sing.
3Testament
The Formation of Damnation

Oh man...what a let down this turned out to be. It's not that it's bad or horrid, it's just so, so subpar. The tracks are either totally fucking awesome (Henchman) or they're just a snooze-fest (The Dangers of the Faithless). I guess that's what I get for expecting something great out of this...damnit.
4Arsis
We Are the Nightmare

Now this suprised me. I was expecting United in Shit pt 2 but instead got a whole serving of win. The title track is just a monster, and my favorite track so far is "Servants to the Night", which just has a disgusting chorus to it (just like Overthrown). Well done Arsis, well done.
5Ahab
Call of the Wretched Sea

I have to say that this is probably the worst fucking music to drive to, since it puts me to sleep. On the flip side, however, this is great to take a nap to. If it wasn't for the ocean-y feel to all of this I would dismiss it as another boring doom metal album. But hey, for what it's worth, it's cool.
