Recent Female Singer/songwriters I Have Been In Love With

heres a list of artists or bands that are led by female singers that i have really gotten into recently. this doesnt consist of any of the metal bands that have female vocals. this is mainly folk, indie, or trip-hop (i guess you can call it that). alphabetic order. please feel free to recommend me more female artists, but no KT Tunstall please because i dont like her that much
1Bjork
Homogenic

bascially the best album out of all these on the list. i have all her other albums as well and they are all amazing (Volta being my least fav though)
2Blonde Redhead
Misery Is A Butterfly

lo-fi, indie stuff. very subtle but can be very haunting at times. 23 is a good album as well
3Cat Power
You Are Free

the only album of theirs i have but very good album.
4Elsiane
Hybrid

i want to say trip-hop but im not sure thats what it would be under since im not too familiar with the genre (except for Massive Attack)
5Emiliana Torrini
Love In the Time of Science

like a more mellow Bjork, and she is from Iceland as well. gorgeous voice
6 Emilie Simon
V?g?tal

thanks to the review, i checked this out. really good French pop and it is much better than all the other pop thats out
7Esthero
Breath From Another

more trip-hop stuff.
8Feist
The Reminder

the album that kind of started my venture into more female singers. still one of my favs out of all that ive heard. i listen to this a lot when relaxing or resting
9Joanna Newsom
Ys

very unique album, she takes folk to the next step and she really shines. i need her other albums
10Joni Mitchell
Blue

the oldest album i have on this list. made in 1971, Mitchell excels at making a very bluesy folk album
11Lykke Li
Youth Novels

i didnt like it too much at first but it is some good pop
12Marissa Nadler
Songs III: Bird on the Water

for fans of Feist, i recommend getting this. very mellow and chill stuff. her voice stays calm throughout
13Nicole Atkins
Neptune City

i never really thought id like this style but its good, she uses a lot of influences from 50's
14Paatos
Timeloss

this is actually a prog rock album, but they have wonderful female vocals. if Mikael Akerfeldt loves this (where i got the rec from actually on his myspace page), then you should too
15PJ Harvey
To Bring You My Love

probably my second fav artist i have discovered on this list. i have all her other albums already and all of them are very good. what i love about her is that she never holds herself back lyrically. for example Who the Fuck? is an intense song for this genre
16Regina Spektor
Soviet Kitsch

forget all the hate i was giving her once, but i have quite fallen in love with her voice. the music isnt that outstanding but her vocals are wonderful. she was a grower
17 RF & Lili de la Mora
Eleven Continents

soft voice yet somewhat bit poppy at times.
18Russian Red
I Love Your Glasses

another indie artist. the vocals can be a bit irritating at times, but not too shabby
19She & Him
Volume One

Zooey is a beautiful singer, i just wish M. Ward wasnt part of this. but her voice outshines everything. i would love to see her do a solo album
20Yael Naim
Yael Naim

gorgeous voice, and French. she also does a very cool cover of the song Toxic by Ms. Spears.
