Album Digging - August (1st Half)
9Casualties of Cool
Casualties of Cool

The bonus disc, to be more precise - I think I prefer it to the main LP. The album is a
great feat by Devin, making country accessible to the prog-minded-masses (albeit a
very small mass) - although the ambient and experimental parts are right up my street,
the country isn't as much. A great album, but not my AOTY. Favourite Track - (Disc 1)
Mountaintop, (Disc 2) Drench
8The Mars Volta
Amputechture

A very overlooked TMV album, I think. It's got some right crackers on here, and the
sax is amazing. Favourite Track - Day of the Baphomets
7Gazpacho
Demon

I am in love with Death Room. It's like it's own mini-EP in its own; the song progresses so
uniquely into different parts, it's a prime example of prog done right. Favourite Track -
Death Room
6Anubis
A Tower of Silence

This album has appeared in my lists so many god damn times, let's keep this brief:
This album is perfect. Next. Favourite Track - The Passing Bell
5The Mars Volta
Octahedron

I haven't really listened to this album much over the recent years, but it really is a good
one. Sure, not Deloused or Frances good, but good. Cedric really shines on this album.
Favourite Track - With Twilight As My Guide
4Peculate
Fiscal Cliffs

The artist you never knew you needed to hear. Ben Norton (aka Peculate) is a instrumentalist
who dibbles with the likes of jazz, avant garde, classical, experimental, prog and technical
death metal with albums that make even tin-foiled hat conspiracy theorists blush. His albums
are available as 'Name Your Price' on Bandcamp, (ie free, for you cheapskates) - it's a shame
there's no physical copies as of yet. Here's a link to Fiscal Cliffs:
http://peculate.bandcamp.com/album/fiscal-cliffs. Favourite Track - Cut Cut Cut
3Peculate
The Chain Industry

Damn his latest album is great. Another great thing about Peculate is that he uploads all the
scores to his music on his website as well - how cool is that? -
http://peculatemusic.com/scores/ - Although I doubt anyone is going to be able to piece his
music together as well as he has. I think I might end up doing a review for either this album or
Fiscal Cliffs; this guy seriously needs more attention, he's fantastic. Here's a link to The Chain
Industry: http://peculate.bandcamp.com/album/the-chain-industry. Favourite Track - The End
of History Pt. 1 (that intro is orgasmic)
2Coheed and Cambria
The Afterman: Ascension

I forgot how much I absolutely adore this album and the artwork as well. Favourite
Track - The Afterman
1Engineers
Always Returning

Now this album was a surprise. Engineers were always a band on the side of my palette
and have always been quite quiet, but boy have they made some noise with this album!
The dreampop/shoegaze outfit have turned slightly more progressive, and it sounds great
- I think their peers at Kscope have started rubbing off on them. I hope to do a review of
this album too, because it too needs attention like hell - it's not AOTY, I'll give you that,
but it's up there on my list, and it's definitely their best album so far. Here's a stream to it
on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/kscopemusic/sets/engineers-always-returning.
Favourite Track: Innsbruck
