Welcome to the site! |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.28.14 | Thanks for the humble welcomes guys. I'm looking forward to my time here. From what I've seen, as long as you don't bad-mouth Radiohead or such, it shouldn't get that heated :D |
MuhNamesTyler

09.28.14 | welcome to the site. as most of my peers have mentioned it's somewhat of a dunghole at times, but generally a sweet haven on the interwebs. probs for FF. that album is splendid. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Thanks everyone. Gonna try to comment on more stuff eventually and get more involved in this family :) Plus i know its gonna be hell at some points. I am prepared... |

pedro70512
09.29.14 | I find that Isis and The Ocean always have something that fits my mood. I could make it on a desert island between those two. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | @SnakeDelilah - great indie vibe :)
@pedro - ive never really jammed sludge metal before, but i like what i hear :) |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | oh wicked, you actually took a look at them. glad to hear you like it so far. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | I love checking out new jams in basically any genre. In things I'm not exactly used to like sludge metal, it gives me a good place to start :) |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | ...I like this guy.
You can stay. |
wacknizzle
09.29.14 | "ive never really jammed sludge metal before, but i like what i hear :)"
We got a convert! now jam Rorcal and Amenra |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | are you trying to scare him away? XD |
wacknizzle
09.29.14 | I compare it to wrecking volcanoes into toy planes, sounds fun to me |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | ...
I've got nothing. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | I AM BEING ACCEPTED! Never really converted from anything though, never really "hated" a genre or was tied to one specifically.
and wacknizzle... atmospheric stuff, well done :) |
Flugmorph
09.29.14 | I can listen to deftones and have a good time. Everytime... |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Flugmorph, I'm sure that applies to A LOT of people, haha :D |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | atmospheric is best mood setter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY6ZznzDoRE |
Flugmorph
09.29.14 | It better be bobble |
DrMaximus
09.29.14 | Welcome, jam Ulcerate. |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | moaropeth |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | @pedro - it seems foreign countries automatically make good bands xD
@Flugmorph - NEW CATCHPHRASE?!?
@DrMaximus - thanks. good rec as ive been jamming death metal lately :) |
wacknizzle
09.29.14 | European post-metal/sludge/bm/dm/hardcore in general is awesome |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | I'm pretty sure that's exactly what's going on. some of my favorite bands are from Germany, France, New Zealand, Finland, Switzerland, England, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Greece, Norway...and the rest are from California |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | wack knows exactly who the NZ representative is |
Flugmorph
09.29.14 | Gonna catch 'em all?
What bobble? |
wacknizzle
09.29.14 | Belgian and French too
Ye |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Flugmorph, what did you mean by it better be bobble? |
Flugmorph
09.29.14 | That a lot of humans listen the fuck out of the def....wait for it...tones |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | I've only found bands in Sweden, Norway and Germany that I can remember off the top of my head (haha, not that good, i know). Also canadian bands are fun to listen to after everyone knocks Nickelback, its just like "yeah, well we have THESE GUYS too, geez." |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | my dorm mate loved Deftones and it pissed him off when I intentionally called them Deft Ones. made for good sport. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | oh yeah, ok Flugmorph. I just read it wrong xD It seems on Sput the BIG names involve Deftones, Opeth and Radiohead :D |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | don't forget Godspeed and Dream Theater |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | honestly, the first time i saw 'Deftones', i had no idea how to say it |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Haven't really heard Godspeed. Gonna have to jam. |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | jam might not be the right word, but you should definitely do that. F#A# is a crazy experience. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Do you recommend it over skinny fists? i see skinny fists around here more often than F#A# |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | I personally prefer it...they're very different. F#A# is full of samples and stories and spoken word pieces all put together like a collage. Skinny Fists is more consistent in its sound -- strings, brass, percussion, synthesizer, more strings. I think it could have been chopped down some, since the middle of the album gets a little droney and overly repetitive. |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | oh, and Swans. people here get off to Swans. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | thanks for the summaries. ill make sure to listen to both. ah yes, Swans, lots of Swans mentioned. |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | no problem man, I can talk music all night, haha. I've got reviews scattered around the site's
metal bits. |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | hey, as long as your here, have you got any advice for writing reviews? i recently added an artist to sputnik and was thinking of doing a review for one of the albums. |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | uh yeah, sure. anything in particular you'd like pointers on? rule #1: Sputnik hates track-by-
tracks. I tend to approach my reviews with certain questions in mind and then answer them with
points from the album. some typical ones are "who is the artist?", "what is the context of the
album?", "what are they trying to do / did they accomplish it?", and "who would like this?". I look
at the instruments and composition, what techniques the band leans on, and what makes the standout
songs good. as a musician, I throw in some technical and theory analysis also. quotes from the band
are also useful. if you can get some or most of that in, the reader can understand the album from a
number of angles and it makes for interesting reviews. |
Flugmorph
09.29.14 | But u can use the phrase if u want ^^ |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Haha, thanks Flugmorph :) |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Thanks for the advice! I already have a 'scaffold' of sorts from an assignment from school. I just needed some pointers on how to make it effective around Sputnik. |
pedro70512
09.29.14 | cool, good luck with it! give me a shout when it's posted. two more things: be careful with recs, because people get up in arms in a hurry about that, and expect downvotes. everyone gets negged eventually (and sometimes arbitrarily). |
BobbleHeadbutt
09.29.14 | Ok will do. Again, really appreciate the advice :) |
Phlegm
09.29.14 | Hi there! welcome to the site :-) |
Flugmorph
09.29.14 | Good luck with your first review |
